Publication History

The Anbar Journal of Engineering Sciences (AJES) is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal published by the University of Anbar, Iraq. The journal is committed to maintaining high academic standards, ensuring research integrity, and providing a reliable platform for the dissemination of engineering knowledge.

Continuity and Exceptional Circumstances

AJES has maintained a strong commitment to publication continuity. However, certain variations in its publication record were the result of exceptional national circumstances beyond the control of the journal’s editorial board. These are transparently documented below in alignment with best practices for international indexing and scholarly publishing standards

1. Exceptional Circumstances Period (2014–2015)

During the years 2014 and 2015, Anbar province experienced severe security conditions due to the occupation of large parts of the region by terrorist groups (ISIS).

Despite these challenges:

  • The University of Anbar did not cease its educational mission
  • The university relocated temporarily to alternative campuses in Baghdad and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq to ensure continuity of teaching and student progression

However, due to these extraordinary conditions:

  • Academic staff were displaced and operating under emergency conditions
  • Institutional resources were prioritized toward sustaining education
  • Research infrastructure and editorial operations were severely disrupted

As a result, all scientific journal publishing activities, including AJES, were suspended during this period.

2. Post-Conflict Recovery Phase (2016–2018)

Following the restoration of stability, the University of Anbar began a gradual return to its main campus and initiated a comprehensive reconstruction process.

During the years 2016, 2017, and 2018:

  • Academic and research activities were progressively re-established
  • Faculty members returned gradually, and research output remained limited
  • The journal operated without a fully developed electronic publishing system

Consequently, AJES published one issue per year during this transitional recovery phase.

3. Digital Transformation and Full Stabilization (2020–Present)

A major advancement in the journal’s development occurred in 2020, when AJES:

  • Implemented a modern electronic publishing platform in collaboration with eJournal Plus
  • Established a fully structured editorial workflow
  • Adopted standardized peer-review and publication processes
  • Enhanced its online visibility, accessibility, and indexing readiness

Since 2020, the journal has consistently maintained a regular semi-annual publication schedule (two issues per year) in full alignment with its declared policy.

Current Status and Commitment to Continuity

AJES is now a fully stabilized and operational journal, adhering to international publishing standards, including:

  • Regular and uninterrupted publication frequency
  • Transparent peer-review and editorial processes
  • DOI registration via Crossref
  • Open access publishing model
  • Ethical standards aligned with COPE guidelines

The journal is firmly committed to sustaining long-term publication continuity and continuously improving its academic quality and international visibility.
